Could business survey bolster efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour?

Wrexham Council says it supports the move by a business in Grosvenor Road to conduct a survey into how neighbouring firms are being affected by anti-social behaviour, and that the findings could boost ongoing work.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships, Public Protection and Community Safety, says: “This is a really complex problem and there’s no easy solution.

“The council is working hard – together with the police, NHS, emergency services and third sector – to improve things, and understanding the perspective of local businesses is a really important part of that.

“We hope the businesses will share their findings with us and want to work with them as much as possible.”

A unique partnership that pulls together resources and expertise from across the public and third sectors has already been set up in Wrexham.

The partnership believes that working together to provide better options for people affected by homelessness and substance-misuse will be key.

Cllr Jones says: “If we can help people move away from this lifestyle, that will improve things for them – and for local businesses and the public.

“Lots of towns and cities are grappling with issues around anti-social behaviour, homelessness and substance-misuse – including ‘new psychoactive substances.’

“We need to find a way to meet the needs of everyone – including the people affected by substance-misuse, local businesses and the public.

“It’s a complicated issue that Wrexham Council and its partners are committed to tackling.

“None of us are ignoring this or burying our heads in the sand. We’re in this together.”
