Housing target boost

HOUSING TARGET BOOST

;

The goal of delivering 1,000 new council homes over the next five years will receive another boost if plans for a package deal with Cadwyn Housing Association are agreed next week.

;

Cardiff Council has outlined a target of 1,000 new homes for the city to meet the increasing demand for good quality, affordable social housing.

;

Cabinet will discuss the package deal which would see Cadwyn developing 50 one and two-bed apartments at the site off Clarence Road, before the Council would acquire and take over the management of the completed properties.

;

The scheme, if approved, would proceed following detailed financial assessments. It would be the second package deal between the Council and Cadwyn Housing Association in recent months after plans to acquire 30 new-build flats on Courtenay Road in Splott were given the green light by Cabinet in October.

;

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said: "We're making really good progress in our aim to deliver 1,000 new council homes in the city over the next five years. Construction is well underway at a number of sites in our Cardiff Living programme that includes 600 new council-managed homes and through smaller schemes like these package deals, we are creeping up towards our target.

;

"This development will be close to the city centre with good access to local amenities and transport links in an area with high levels of social housing need."

;

Cabinet will discuss the new build scheme at its next meeting on Thursday, December 14.
