Advance notice - Pontygwindy Road weekend road closures

As part of the Pwll-Y-Pant roundabout improvement scheme, it will be necessary to implement weekend road closures to a section of Pontygwindy Road in Caerphilly over a period of three weeks during January.

The council has recently worked with Welsh Government to agree a package of joint funding, which has enabled the original traffic management proposals to be significantly altered. The revised plan will see the reintroduction of single lane traffic arrangements for a short period of time from 8th January, then the scheme will be open to two lane traffic management for the rest of the works.

As part of these works, it is necessary to install three separate trenches to carry out a drainage installation and lay services across Pontygwindy Road, which are essential elements of the scheme. Due to the proximity of this work to the exit from Pwll-y-Pant roundabout, it will be necessary to undertake these works under a full road closure to minimise delays and disruption on the roundabout.

There will be three weekend closures of Pontygwindy Road, commencing the weekend of 13th January 2018, continuing on the weekend of 20th January and concluding on the weekend of 27th January. The closures will be in operation from 8am on the Saturday mornings until 6am on Monday morning, although every effort will be made to complete the works in a shorter time period.

On these weekends there will be no access to Pontygwindy Road from Pwll-y-Pant roundabout, and it will be closed northbound at the junction with the access road leading to the Catnic Industrial Estate. Pedestrian access will be via the Pontygwindy Industrial Estate and the overbridge to Llanbradach. All diversion routes will be clearly signed. If disabled access is required during this time, residents are advised to contact a member of the site team to arrange an escorted access.

Caerphilly County Borough Council would like to thank residents for their patience while this essential work is completed. For more information on the Pwll-y-Pant roundabout improvement scheme, please visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk/pwllypant ; ;
