Donate unwanted instruments - and give a Merthyr Tydfil child the gift of music

Do you have a musical instrument that you don’t use anymore?  A violin gathering dust at the back of a cupboard, perhaps, or a flute hidden in the depths of the attic?

If so, you could help give a local child the gift of music while relieving your home of clutter at the same time.

Following the Welsh Government’s Instruments for Kids project, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s Music Service is encouraging local residents to scour attics, sheds and garages and look behind cupboards and under beds in search of long forgotten and unused musical instruments which could be reused by children.

The Music Service’s ‘Musical Amnesty Day’ will be held on Friday February 16, with residents asked to take any unwanted instruments to the Council Offices at Unit 5, Pentrebach, Merthyr Tydfil (CF48 4TQ) from 9am-5pm.

“Any instrument will be gratefully received, but we’re asking that they’re generally in a good condition,” said Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council Cabinet Member for Learning Cllr Lisa Mytton.

“Please give a child from a local school the gift of music - and your instrument a new lease of life!”
